My Silver-Metal Teeth

After many years of deciding whether to get brace or not - I have finally decided and got my brace just in a week or so!

Well, since i was a kid people always told me that I sound funny when I talk and also that my teeth looks like they are standing out - well, it wasn't (I always thought that and still believe that to this day). It never really bored me either since I felt that their are always people who complain about the looks - like when I wear my glasses not my contact lenses - I receive tons of negative comments. However, I learned to get over all the negative comments and live the way I always wanted to live. (off topic) So, in grade eleven I was given a chance to orthodontic, and i was giving the chance of picking on whether I wanted braces or not. So, I decided not to talk brace and I choice to wear retainers. But sadly, that turned out to be a huge mistake - after get my very first retainers - I had an oral presentation in my Physics class and guess what; my presentation actually went well until - I made a pronunciation mistake - in which the whole class began to laugh even the teacher - I was so embarrassed - and even when I tried to forgot that incident my peers brought it up each day - which lead me to remove my retainers forever!  That decision I made - gave a huge disappointment to many people around me, plus the issue of my facial shape got even more popular that it was the biggest talk of the year. This incident happened to me at the age of eighteen. However, now I am twenty years old and am wearing brace! (A huge change over).

After two years, I finally got the confidence and made a call to the orthodontic to make an appointment for my brother and randomly I decided to make an appointment for myself as well. And last week when I went to my appointment, once again I was given the another chance to receive brace and this time around the doctor gave me a huge explanation on what the problem is and why I need braces. I found out that my tongue not touching the upper jaw isn't good and that cause me to sleep with my mouth open and also, I found out that my jaws are both so small that their are still four teeth struggling to come out. Plus, this time around I have the confidence to take all the pain and complete that long process of wearing braces. Also, this time around I won't be alone my brother got his brace with me too. However, my time period of wearing braces are for twenty-six months. (how sad - that's like two years and two months).
This time I actually ended up going to the same orthodontist clinic for the check up and overall, I received tons of knowledge on why I should get braces and my benefits after it.  Also, when I came that day after the consultation I ended up search the clinic up on Google and found more in depth details on them. (small clue of who they are form the photo on the left side corner). And the funny thing is that on the first day of consultation the orthodontist told his nurse put in the spacers (they are plastic rubber bands that help create space in between your teeth) and since that day after the consultation I ended up looking as if I began a diet - i wasn't able to eat anything! Well, I was but still it was too painful for me so I didn't force myself too much and didn't want to hurt myself. (I just realized that this is gonna be a long post)  But exactly after two weeks I had my appointment (Wednesday, September 7th 2011) at 10 am and by 12 noon I officially got my braces - and not it's not those invisible braces - that wasn't even given to me as a choice - so I have the lovely silver ones ( I guess i don't need to find a knight - to save me from vampires - I could just smile and show off my beautiful braces). Yes, they aren't really beautifully and yes they do feel awful, but my friend Debbi once told me that "Beauty is Pain" - so I guess I am in that stage of my life! (And hopefully this doesn't ruin my mood or ruin my force in school - because that would suck)
I am actually hope that this process wold get less painful as days goes since today is the second day and I am already losing it! Hopefully it gets better (Please god make it better - I can't stand pain - well actually I can but not when it details with the portal to my stomach - which blocks me away from all the yummy food) So pray for me (all of you or could be my moral support from where ever you may be). I guess there are many people out there who are going though the same pain as me and my brother - well, there could be people who have more pain than me - don't to all those in pain due to brace we shall all until as a team and become a force which may defeat the pain of brace! ( I think I officially lost it) Also, I forgot to mention that now I need to make an appointment with my dentist to pull out three of my cute little teeth due to this brace's process. I don't have a choice I have to loss three of them - Once again - "Beauty is Pain" Just as life and it's lessons. However, think it about it right now, I regret taking off my retainers at the age of eighteen, maybe it  was more confident and didn't live by what others thought about me - maybe I would be in this position that I am in now - may be everything thing would have been different - well, now past is past and there is no use crying over split milk - trust me - it split already - so no-use at all. However, I learned a very good lesson for that experience and I hope that incident what happened to me the my Physics class doesn't happen to anyone else in history - hopefully not and if it does please be more brave than me and  tend not to make the same mistakes I did. I guess that's what life is "it's all about learning" - (once again I am officially off topic) - I think I should get an award for that (what do you think!

Just for getting brace I got taught a brand new routine on how to brush me teeth and stuff (since i have to be gentle but not too gentle) Also, I received a huge bag full of goodies (well, both me and my brother got our very own and yes I felt like a little kid during that moment) Well, the bag contained a lot of stuff that I have use daily to take care of my teeth and my brace. Since if anything bad happens to them - it ruins my teeth and my smile - sadly at this instance I can't even since since my mouth is so much sore and pain.

Hopefully soon in a few months (not few twenty-six long months) I get my smile and my un-sore mouth  back! Plus, hopefully I can go back to regular diet that this new one that I have now!

Wish me luck to endure the pain and agony cause by the pain and sore from these shiny silver metal braces.

So, my lovely readers and followers did any of you have brace or had brace and have any tips for me to create a survival kit!

  33. When I was young, there were never enough money for the braces. When I went abroad and money was sufficient, I never had the time. But braces are still in my to-do list. I´m getting mine soon too.

Congrats for the braces. Your negative commenters will have to wait when it´s done. :)

  34. I'm in my last year of university and I just got my braces off. The process they want you to take is crazy. They wanted me to wear a retainer for the rest of my life. I really didn't think that was going to happen.

  49. Braces was a pain for me! I start preparing for them when I was 12 and got it when I was 14. Since I have to do an oral surgery recommend by the doctors, I have to stick with braces for 5 years! I am glad I went through all that pain because it's worth it!

You will get used to it soon and hope it turns out great for you!

  56. My doctor also advised me to get braces because my mouth is too small for 32 teeth to fit in.. my upper front teeth is slightly pushed inwards which thereby pushes my lower teeth and it also eventually is pushed inwards.. but i din think i need braces which are put outside the teeth.. which is the same advice given by a senior doctor!
thereby, i am using a kid brush :D no jokes on dis one pls.. n chewing properly and following other oral hygiene practices..
getting braces at this age when im sitting for placements would really pull down my confidence
i am happy this way :)

When i went to dentist yesterday she showed me some pics of celebs that had awful teeth and I couldn't believe it cause i know how they look now. It was kinda inspiring

  64. Some people might find braces a bit off, but in fact, they're very expensive and not everyone can afford them. If you're wearing one, that means your family is lucky to afford them.
