Health Benefits of Hiking

Since 2016, I have gotten a new fitness hobby - hiking!!! Hiking exercises almost every part of your body: legs, knees, ankles, arms, hips and butt, abdominals, shoulders and neck.
Hiking is a fantastic workout for burning calories and building muscles and often times you can even forget completely that you are technically exercising.
Hiking is a regular aerobic exercise that leads to: 
Improved cardiorespiratory fitness (heart, lungs, blood vessels)
Improved muscular fitness
Lower risk of coronary heart disease and stroke
Lower risk of high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes
Lower risk of high cholesterol and triglycerides
Lower risk of colon and breast cancer, and possibly lung and endometrial cancer
Increased bone density or a slower loss of density
Reduced depression and better quality sleep
Lower risk of early death (If you are active for 7 hours a week, your risk of dying early is 40% lower than someone active for less than 30 minutes a week.)
Weight control; hiking burns up 370 calories an hour (154-lb person)

• Glutes
• Quadriceps
• Hamstrings
• Calves
• Abdominals
• Lower Back
• Obliques
• Ankle and Knee Complex
• Inside and Outside Thigh
Safe Hiking Tips 
Bring a buddy. It’s best not to hike alone at first, especially on unfamiliar or remote trails. A partner or group can help you navigate and assist if you get hurt. As your skill level improves, you’ll feel more comfortable going solo.
Know before you go. Familiarize yourself with the trail map. Check the weather, and dress and pack accordingly. If storms are a possibility, rethink your plan. Follow marked paths and trails.
Aside from burning a lot of calories and providing allover toning, hiking never gets boring. The last place you want to spend the day when it’s nice outside is inside the gym on a treadmill.
